Job Description:
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the CT Scan Manager but according
to established policies and procedures is responsible for the
performance of CT Scan procedures in a satellite unit or a unit
requiring the use of more difficult techniques. Work is performed
at a level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail.
Instructs Radiology students and/or employees in the clinical
procedures used in the unit. Performs clerical and/or
administrative functions necessary to the efficient operation of
the unit and for patient records. All essential functions performed
in the position reflect age specific needs of the geriatric adult
and pediatric patients. Fosters patient and family centered care
and nursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health
and Rhode Island Hospital mission vision and values with
consideration of the life span including all developmental stages
as well as cultural patterns. Responsibilities:
Utilizes experienced-based knowledge with little technical
supervision to perform all the duties of a CT Scan Technologist in
routine and complex radiologic procedures in a satellite unit or in
a unit requiring the use of more difficult techniques such as
Pediatrics including but not limiting to: 2D 3D 4D MIP VR SSD
images.
Provides for the clinical experience of Radiology Technology
students instructing and guiding students through Radiology
procedures in areas of responsibility. May review performance of
students with supervisor.
Provides on-the-job instruction to employees in clinical procedures
in the area of responsibility. May participate in formal in-service
educational classes.
Performs clerical and/or administrative tasks such as:
Inventory and ordering of supplies
Compiling statistics
Checking equipment for proper operating condition and reporting
needs for repair
Understands and practices ALARA principles of Radiation Protection
including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters.
May direct the work of others in assigning coordinating and
reviewing their work. May provide input into performance appraisals
counseling or disciplinary control or other personnel actions for
employees regularly assigned to the area.
Maintain CT Scan department workflow and staff efficiently for
maximum throughput.
Remain proficient in special procedures including but not limited
to: Biopsy drainage ablations (Cryogenic RF Microwave).
Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Completion of an accredited program in Computed Tomography and
knowledge of the requirements of CT Scan Technologist.
Must be registered and in good standing with the American Registry
of Radiological Technology (ARRT).
Must hold a current CPR certification from AHA BLS for Healthcare
Providers.
Must have a RI state radiation license and CT supplemental license
from the DOH.
Ability to operate all types of x-ray CT Scan and related equipment
push portable equipment transfer and position patients.
Ability to determine the means of providing the requested
radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality based on the specifics
of each use.
Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may
be under physical and/or emotional stress and to instruct students
and employees in radiologic techniques.
Analytical skills to compile and interpret routine data and
organizes work.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care
patients with consideration of aging processes human development
stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
One year experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital
radiology department plus one year specialized training in the
operation of the Computed Tomography Scanner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Works in the CT Scan area or a smaller satellite operation where
there is little discomfort due to noise dust and temperature.
Exposed to radiation but there is little chance of illness or
injury when established safety procedures are followed.
Continuous standing along with walking pushing of portable
equipment and lifting and positioning of patients.
Some exposure to odors from human waste and chemicals from
automatic film processing equipment is experienced.
Long periods of standing along with walking pushing potable
equipment and lifting and positioning of patients is required.
